You Can Never Ask For Less Experience
At some point in our lives we ask ourselves, “How did I get into the position I am in now?
Some individuals may then focus on all the negative events that have taken place in their lives to subconsciously justify their negative attitude towards life. Blaming their family, friends, upbringing, environment, teachers, government and even the weather on some occasions! Since we don’t care too much about negativity, we will move on quickly!
Other individuals will weigh the pros and cons that have taken place in their lives and become content with where they are because this is where they think they ought to be in life.
A prime example of this would be the philosophy of going to school to get a good education, meeting your college sweetheart who ends up becoming your 1st husband or wife, getting a good job and then sowing your seed to bring new life into the world. This type of individual becomes content with their life because that is what they envisioned life is about!
Ok! So let’s not be so naïve! There will be some extra-curricular activities outside of work and family life before the old high school injuries begin to really kick in. Like, cramming in some shopping, birthday parties, anniversaries, and weekend getaways with your loved one. After about 40 something years, your retired, your financial obligation to your children has hopefully come to an end and you will be enjoying the life of being grandparents.
Ideally, that is what has occurred since the beginning of time. Billions of people have walked the face of this earth without leaving their mark. They came, they saw, and they … … … . left. And that is okay! Not everyone cares to leave a legacy behind him or her, but there are those that don’t just walk on the face of this earth. They RUN!
Let’s call these individuals, the “Self-Proclaimed Entrepreneur.” They are driven and ambitious to reach new heights in life and not to live a life of mediocrity. A yearning to achieve drives this person to do the things most wouldn’t fathom trying. Win, Lose or Draw, these individuals want more and expect more out of life and do not stop pursing their desires, wants and needs until they come to fruition. Once a goal is achieved, they already having something new lined up to tackle.
Being an entrepreneur, you will face many adversities that you have to push yourself over, under or through that the average man will give up on. Your family may doubt your ability to carry out your plan. Friends will think that you’re talking hot air. The people that are closest to you may turn against you. You will even begin to doubt your own abilities. Surprise! The road ahead is nothing like cruising down PCH in a black Ferrari California with the top down on a Wednesday afternoon. Your sacrifice and discipline today makes that opportunity an option in the end though.
Through the lenses of an entrepreneur, they dissect what they can gain or cannot gain from each experience. From starting a new business, to failing in business, the true spirited entrepreneur must pull themselves up by the bootstraps, re-evaluate their strategy and make adjustments to get them over their hurdles.
In the case of a business failure, entrepreneurs may need to go through the experience of running in the rat race to gain some new experiences while still having the ability to pay the bills that NEVER stop coming! Wealthy or Poor. Hate it or love it.
Entrepreneurs spend this time to build new strategies and relationships to reach the goals they have in life. Working in Corporate America provides entrepreneurs with the understanding of what 95% of Americans go through on a daily basis. Long commutes, negative attitudes, little pay raises, few hours with their family each day and let’s not forget no cell phones or personal backgrounds on your work PC. Experiences like this is key to stepping up the Ladder of Life, not up the Ladder of Corporate America.
What new relationships can you forge with other like-minded individuals? What company policies do you or don’t you like that you can incorporate into your ventures? What would your company environment be like? How do YOU envision the future of your organization?
For those that are at this current stage of the entrepreneur lifecycle, the test is to uphold your craving to achieve more out of life. When wondering why you are in the current situation you are in, always remember that things happen for a reason, and that reason, even if it is not clear, is to find something that you could learn from and apply into your life after that chapter has been closed. Greater things are just over the horizon.
